Training and Development
TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
ACLI encourages employees to improve their knowledge, skills and abilities by participating in various types of training and development programs. The ACLI provides financial support subject to the approval of the supervisor and appropriate Senior Staff member.

TUITION ASSISTANCE
The ACLI offers tuition assistance to employees who wish to continue their formal academic education at a recognized, accredited school, college or university and pursue approved courses outside of regular working hours. Employees must complete at least six months of service before applying. The ACLI reimburses 100% of tuition and books if the course is directly related to the employee’s current or near-future job. If the course is generally related to the job, or would strengthen advancement potential, the ACLI reimburses 50% of the costs. Transportation costs are not reimbursed. To apply for the benefit, an employee completes a Tuition Assistance Application Form, submits it to their supervisor and senior staff member for approval, and returns it to Human Resources in advance of course attendance. Employees may request an advance of half of the anticipated reimbursement amount. The maximum reimbursement is $5,250 per calendar year for regular, full-time employees. The benefit is pro-rated for regular part-time employees.
To receive this benefit, the employee submits documentation of incurred tuition, fees, book costs and evidence of successful course completion (grade of “C” or better). If an employee leaves the ACLI before completing the course, drops a course or fails to receive a grade of “C” or better, any approved advance must be repaid. Also, if an employee leaves the ACLI, all tuition assistance benefits received during the 12 months prior to termination date must be repaid. ACLI may deduct any repayments due from the employee’s paycheck.
OTHER PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALS
The ACLI also provides financial support to regular, full-time employees who wish to pursue a CLU, ChFC, ASA, FSA, AALI, FALU, CEBS, SPHR, PHR or other professional credential. To apply for the benefit, an employee must have completed six months of service, fill out a tuition assistance application form and obtain supervisory, Senior Staff and human resources approval. Employees may request an advance of half of the anticipated reimbursement amount for each course(s) required. When the employee passes the exam(s), the ACLI reimburses him/her for the remaining 50%. ACLI will also reimburse textbook costs and fees. If an employee drops or fails a course exam, any approved advance must be repaid. Also, if an employee leaves the ACLI, all benefits received during the 12 months prior to the termination date must be repaid. ACLI may deduct any repayments due from the employee’s paycheck. Incentives for course completion do not apply to these programs.
LOMA PROGRAM
Administered by LOMA’s Education Division, the LOMA program offers independent study courses on life insurance, financial services, annuities, management, reinsurance, compliance, customer services and more. The ACLI strongly encourages employees to take courses leading to the completion of one of LOMA’s professional designation programs as soon as possible after beginning employment. Read the LOMA Factsheet for more information.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS/CONFERENCES
ACLI supports employee participation in professional and management development programs, educational or professional conferences, seminars, or workshops by paying the costs and providing business time off to attend the program. To apply, fill out a training request form.
IN-HOUSE PROGRAMS
Periodically, the ACLI offers in-house workshops and seminars. Some programs have open registration, while others are offered to a targeted group or require supervisory recommendation to attend.
